SECTION 2 OPERATION OVERVIEW
&RPPXQLFDWLRQ&RGH
The 105SL printer sends and receives ASCII (American Standard Code for Information
Interchange) characters in one of two formats, Serial Data or Parallel Data.
NOTE: When using the serial data format, the baud rate, number of data and stop
bits per character, and parity are selectable. Parity only applies to data
transmitted by the 105SL printer. For received data, the parity bit is
ignored.

A standard 36-pin parallel connector is available at the rear of the printer for connection to the
data source. Under normal circumstances, data sent from the printer to the host in response to
a “Printer Status Request” command is sent through the RS-232 serial port. However, if the
host has a properly configured IEEE-1284 parallel port that is recognized by the printer, status
information is returned through the parallel port. Port selection for status information is
determined each time the printer is turned on. See Figure 2-10.
