Basic Printer Configuration
The configuration procedure in Ta b l e 5 shows the basic parameters that might need to be
altered to get you r pri nter up and runn in g. Refer to Configuration and Calibration LCD
Displays on page 46 for more information on these and the ot her fro nt panel parameters.
• Enter Setup Mode by pressing SETUP/EXIT at the “PRINTER READY” display.
• To increase the value, answer “yes,” indicate “on,” or move to the next selection, use the
(+) key.
• To decrease the value, answer “no,” i ndicate “off,” or return to t he prev io us se lection, use
the (–) key.
Note • Yo u need to pr ess NEXT/SAVE more than once to advance to or ski p some of th e
displays.
Note • When changi ng parameters, a n asterisk (*) in the upper left-han d corner of t h e
LCD indicates that you have changed this setting from the one that is stored currently in
memory.
Table 5 • Basic Printer Configuration Sequence
Parameter Action/Explanation
DARKNESS
Press the (+) or (–) keys to increase or decrease the print darkness setting. (You
may need to change this setting when you print your label.)
PRINT MODE
Press the (+) or (–) keys to select Tear-Off, Peel-Off, Cutter, or Rewind Mode.
MEDIA TYPE
Press the (+) or (–) keys to select continuous or non-continuo us media type. (If
you choose continuous media, you must also include a label length instruction in
your label format.)
SENSOR TYPE
Press the (+) or (–) keys to select transmissive or black mark sensing mode.
Unless your media has black marks on the back, leave your printer at the default
setting (web).
PRINT METHOD
Press the (+) or (–) keys to select thermal transfer (if you are using ribbon) or
direct thermal (no ribbo n).
MAXIMUM LENGTH
Press the (+) or (–) keys to set the value that is closest to, but not less than, the
length of th e label you are using.
SAVE CHANGES
Press the (+) or (–) keys to select:
PERMANENT—keeps changes saved to memor y after the po wer is t urned off.
Press NEXT/SAVE to accept the selectio n.
PRINTER READY
You have exited Setup Mo de and are ready to calibrate the printer.
